I’ve always known Lala Hsu 徐佳瑩 to be an exceptional artist but never really followed her performances closely until she went on Singer 2020 歌手·当打之年 for the second time. This time around she really tried to daringly push her comfort zone and it definitely paid off. This week she had did her own rendition of Jolin Tsai’s song, The Great Artist. She’s turned it into a jazzy, groovy piece. Both the original and her version are probably really difficult to perform so props to both.
As far as the song goes, I might prefer Lala’s more than the original. The pace is slower and is more dynamic which allows the audience to hear everything much more clearly. She has a lot of cool transitions throughout which is very aurally immerseive.
The original isn’t bad by any means, it’s just a style preference. Jolin still slayed with this as usual, I loved the beats.
